"From Munich we travelled on the Orient Express, via Yugoslavia and Bulgaria (very daring in those days of the Cold War and of Soviet domination in Eastern Europe) and across the north of Greece to Turkey and Istanbul. Actually, the Orient Express broke down about fifty miles short of its destination and, along with all our fellow passengers, we had to scamper across the railway tracks and clamber aboard a slow local train which took us to Istanbul."
